IIT-KEC Lecture: Starting a High-Tech Company "on Campus"
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (CST)
Considering starting a high-tech venture, or looking for resources for
your current company? Universities have a lot to offer entrepreneurs,
as Phillip Leslie, founder of ProOnGo, has experienced.
ProOnGo is the leader in mobile expense reporting, with the help of two universities (University of Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology). Phil's decision to found ProOnGo in a university setting came from a variety of motivations: the need to recruit large numbers of talented engineers and marketers, the need to spend his capital sparingly, and a desire to maintain close relationships with movers and shakers that are on the forefront of business and technology.
Phil will talk about how ProOnGo successfully staffed their initial engineering team, consisting almost entirely of masters students, through a process of filtering over 300 resumes to testing, interviewing, and placing students in roles that match their abilities. He will also talk about the university resources that have been pivotal to his success, but are often overlooked by early-stage entrepreneurs.
ProOnGo has been featured by BusinessWeek, Forbes.com, BNet, NBC, and others, and is a 2009 Finalist in the BlackBerry Partners Fund annual competition for the best new mobile applications.
